..Carlos Ghost would bring the Renault Megane to the States as a Mitsubishi? If I remember correctly Renault/Nissan and Mitsubishi have an alliance.

‘muricans on Oppo want everything they can’t have :)
It’s the “can’t have it syndrom”. It doesn’t matter if it sucks, it doesn’t matter how bad it is in reality. They can’t have it, therefore they want it (ie: Citroen Cactus, any Kei-car...etc) :)

“Built it and they will come. not buy it because it’s not a Hatchback or Wagon, which no one in America will end up buying anyways because no one really buys those kinds of vehicles here, just SUV’s and Pick-Up Trucks.”

Pictured, Carlos Ghost.
He would’ve gotten away with it, too...

Hey now, the Cactus isn’t so bad! Actually, many French cars are getting pretty good these days. We’re out of the 90s-early 2000s crappiness it seems. Not saying Renault is the new VW, but it’s getting acceptable. And the Citroens look great, and Peugeot is trying to move upmarket.

The designs are somewhat cool and original but the driving experience is dull to no extent. Unless of course you go after Renault RS. Other than that...

Here in Chile people have similar taste to americans when buying cars, when the Renault- Samsung SM3 came out people loved it because it was a Korean car with a japanese engine and classic sedan styling. When Renault-Samsung decided they didn’t want to brand their new SM3 as a Samsung and put the Renault logo and called it the Fluence no one bought it because “hurrr it’s french and unreliable” even though it still had a Nissan powertrain and made in Turkey.
I would think the same thing would happen in the US. Also the Sentra seems to do fine in that segment.

Brand perception is not to be underestimated. Though I think the Megane would be something halfway exciting looking in the US. The compact offerings there all seem to be kinda boring imo apart from hot hatches.
